Joint Healing: Home Remedies For Knee Pain

Joint Healing: Home Remedies For Knee Pain

You bend them, kneel on them, and exert your weight on them routinely. Yet none of us ever give them a second thought until they malfunction.

The joint we refer to as the knee is made up of the kneecap, the rounded bottom end of the thigh bone and the flat top of the shin bone. A tendon attaches the kneecap to the thigh muscles above, and a ligament connects it to the shinbone below. As the knee bends and straightens, the kneecap slides up and down in the vertical groove between the two bones, strengthening the muscles attached to it.

Better Health Through Fasting

Better Health Through Fasting
By Zafar Nomani

professor emeritus of human nutrition and foods

West Virginia University

With the sighting of the crescent moon, the holy month of Ramadan has begun this year, marking the start of a spiritual boot camp in which Muslims fast without any food or water from sunup to sundown. To many, the rigor may seem too tasking, but, as a veteran scientist of clinical nutrition and as a 76-year-old Muslim man who has fasted since I was a boy, growing up in India, I can say that fasting can be a healthy practice not just for God but for you.

"Eat plenty of salad with raw onions. Onions contain sulfur and have healing properties.

Diet should include yogurt and other soured products, such as cottage cheese, and buttermilk.

Prepare a solution by adding 2 oz hydrogen peroxide, 2 oz water, and 1 tsp each of salt and baking soda. Rinse the mouth with this solution. Do not swallow. One of the useful home remedies for mouth ulcers."

Avoid eating fish or meat of any kind for two weeks. The consumption of animal protein increases the body's acidity, which slows healing.

Avoid chewing gum, lozenges, mouthwashes, tobacco, coffee, citrus fruits, and any other foods that you know trigger these sores.

Avoid hard toothbrush bristles or sharp-edged foods such as potato chips or dry bread crusts.

Too much acid from fruits and vegetables, and spicy foods can also trigger mouth sores.

Keep the bowels regular to prevent toxic buildup. Walk regularly walking in fresh air to oxygenate the body and stimulate bowel movement.

To avoid getting canker sores, it is important to maintain a proper balance of minerals, acidity, and alkalinity in the body.

For mouth ulcer treatment do not use the same toothbrush for longer than one month.

Application of peppermint oil helps, as it is an anesthetic agent.

For mouth ulcer treatment mix coconut milk with honey and massage the gums 3 times a day.

Take 1 tsp finely powdered Indian Gooseberry root bark, mix with honey. Apply to affected areas frequently. This is one of the best home remedies for mouth ulcers..

Grate some fresh coconut. Extract the milk and gargle with this 3-4 times a day.

Keep 1 glass of chilled water and 1 glass of hot water ready at hand. Gargle alternately with hot and cold water.

Boil 2 cups of water. Add 1-cup fenugreek leaves and remove. Cover and keep for sometime. Strain the water and gargle 2-3 times a day. This is also very useful home remedy for mouth ulcers.

Boil 1 tsp of coriander seeds in 1 cup of water. Remove when slightly warm gargle. Repeat 3-4 times a day.

Avoid hot or spicy foods to minimize discomfort. Mild mouth washes such as salt water or over-the-counter mouthwashes may help. For mouth ulcer treatment apply hydrogen peroxide (1 part hydrogen peroxide and one part water with a cotton swab) on the canker sore. This is one of the important home remedies for mouth ulcers.

Pouring salt directly on the ulcer can prove effective, however this can be extremely painful and can scar.

Rinse mouth and especially the affected area with sage tea 3 times a day. The improvement can be seen within 24 hours.

Gargle a mouthful of warm vinegar with half tablespoon of salt for about 30 secs, 3 times a day. Extremely painful but healing can be seen in about 2 days. This is one of the best home remedies for mouth ulcers.

Make a paste of baking soda and water—apply directly to the sores

Orange juice is helpful in preventing the canker sores of the mouth. Drink it up in 2 or 3 days it will go away. Lack of vitamin C causes them. You can also take Vitamin C pills if you don't want to drink all that orange juice.

Cover the ulcer with a wet tea bag; the tannin will help dry up the sore.

Mix Sodium bicarbonate powder with water. It is a very effective first aid remedy. This mixture can be used as a mouth rinse as well as swallowed to help make the body more alkaline. This is one of the important home remedies for mouth ulcers.

Use a toothpaste containing sodium bicarbonate instead of the standard toothpastes high in fluoride and other chemicals.

Antacids can soothe canker sores by reducing the acidity in your mouth that can irritate them. Combine equal parts of the liquid form of Kaopectate or Milk of Magnesia (both antacids) with Benylin or Benadryl (both mild anesthetics). Apply the mixture to the canker sore with a cotton swab. You'll cut down on painful acidity in your mouth and numb the sore too.

Try stress-relieving acupressure exercises. Avoid constant stress. Take time to exercise, sleep and relax.

Simple solutions for shiny hair

Simple solutions for shiny hair
Do you long for shiny tresses, but lack the funds for expensive products and treatments? Don't despair - you don't have to be a supermodel to have gleaming locks. Before you mourn your lackluster strands, head to the kitchen and try these simple solutions to lock in shine the natural way.

Sun, wind, saltwater, pollution, and chemicals are just some of the shine-depleting elements your hair may be subjected to on a daily basis. They can strip your hair of its natural oils and create build-up leaving it dull and lifeless. Fortunately, Mother Nature has a few remedies to share.

The Alluring Avocado
Mash an avocado (one avocado for short hair, two for long) in a bowl until it forms a thick paste. Spread the paste on your hair from root to tip and leave on for 20 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Avocados are high in fatty acids and nutrients. Feed your hair!

Amazing Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix half a cup of apple cider vinegar with one quart of water and use as a hair rinse after your regular shampoo. Rich in alpha-hydroxy acids, apple cider vinegar helps break down residue build-up leaving your hair soft and full of shine. Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and it will be shining in no time.

Eggs Over Olive Oil
Beat together two eggs for short hair, three for long, and add in three tablespoons of olive oil. Coat your hair from root to tip and leave on for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Eggs contain eleven essential nutrients and are packed with protein. Combine them with olive oil for conditioning and nourishment and you have one powerful duo.

Coconut Craze
Warm three tablespoons of coconut oil and gently comb into your hair from root to tip. Wrap your hair in a hot towel and let the oil sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Loaded with antioxidants, coconut oil works to smooth dry and damaged cuticles and lock in shine.

Life doesn't have to be dull and neither does your hair! It's time to shine! Open your cabinet and start mixing, then sit back and bask in your natural glow.

Basic emotional freedom techniques in acupressure therapy

Basic emotional freedom techniques in acupressure therapy

Lindsay Kenny explains how EFT helps clear blocks in the body's energy system. Emotional Freedom Techniques, founded by Gary Craig, is the largest, fastest growing, easiest to learn, and most user friendly of the Energy-based Therapies available today. Unlike acupressure, you simply tap or touch very lightly on specific meridian points. Most of these points are located on the upper body and face. By tapping on these points, small shock waves or soothing pulses are sent throughout the meridian system. By systematically stimulating or tapping the meridian points, (about 15 in all), while addressing a specific problem, the emotional issue gradually disappears. This simple process balances and re-energizes the system, often in a matter of minutes, clearing blockages and dissipating the negative emotions as you do so.

Deep breathing and the lymph system

Deep breathing and the lymph system

Deep breathing is important because it makes your lymphatic system work better. What is the lymph system? Some people think of it as the body's sewage system. Every cell in your body is surrounded by lymph.

Here's how the lymph system works: Blood is pumped from your heart through your arteries to the thin, porous capillaries. The blood carries nutrients and oxygen to the capillaries, where they are diffused into this fluid around the cells called lymph. The cells, having an intelligence or affinity for what they need, take nutrients and oxygen for their health and then excrete toxins, some of which go back into the capillaries. But dead cells, blood proteins, and other toxic material must be removed by the lymphatic system. And the lymphatic system is activated by deep breathing.

Deep breathing and lymph nodes

The body's cells depend on the lymphatic system as the only way to drain off the large toxic materials and excess fluid, which restrict the amount of oxygen that the cells are able to absorb. The fluid passes through the lymph nodes, where dead cells and all other poisons except blood proteins are destroyed and neutralized. How important is the lymphatic system? If it were totally shut down for 24 hours, you would die as the result of trapped blood proteins and excess fluid around the cells. In addition to deep breathing, rebounding on a mini-trampoline is another great way to stimulate your lymph system.

The lymph collected throughout the body drains into the blood through 2 ducts located at the base of the neck, ultimately ending up in the 'thoracic duct'. Breathing drives this action. If you take a deep breath and exhale deeply, you're massaging the thoracic duct upward into the neck so that the fluid flows abundantly. This duct empties the lymph into the veins, where it becomes part of the blood plasma. From there, the lymph returns to the liver for metabolization, and finally to the kidneys for filtering.

Deep breathing and lymph

Did you know that the lymphatic system is twice the size of our other circulatory system? It's true. Twice as much lymph as blood is present in our bodies, and we have twice as many lymph vessels as blood vessels. One of the keys to health is to keep your lymphatic system open and flowing freely.

As most readers probably know, most of the body is made up of water. Part of the water resides in the bloodstream, but far more is in the lymphatic system. Our cells are located in a sea of lymph, a pale fluid.

Like the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system is made up of channels, valves and filters, or nodes. Unlike the cardiovascular system, however, the lymphatic system lacks any central "heart-like" organ to pump lymph throughout the lymph vessels. Instead, the lymphatic system depends on muscular movement, simple gravity and BREATHING to move lymph fluid throughout the body.

When the lymphatic system is flowing freely everything is well. When the lymphatic system backs up, however, there's trouble. The consequences can be serious, even life-threatening. Not only are the repair, building and waste disposal systems affected by a disruption, the body's defenses against foreign substances are also impaired. In addition to filtering out toxic materials, the lymph nodes also produce substances which fight off invading bacteria and viruses and destroy abnormal cells which developed within the body, such as cancer cells. In addition to being part of the body's plumbing and repair system, the lymphatic system is an essential part of our immune system.

The lymphatic system is as essential to bodily function as the bloodstream it complements. "To keep it clear, you need to increase its drainage capacity or reduce its intake of toxins. I suggest doing both - through diet, stress reduction, exercise and deep breathing.

Jasmine the most aromatic flower in the garden

Jasmine has long been loved for its wonderful scent. This climbing plant blooms with one of the most aromatic flower in the garden.

The jasmine plant was first introduced in Europe in the 16th century where it quickly gained immense popularity because of its scent. French perfumers especially took an interest this lovely climbing plant.

In addition to its scent, the jasmine plant also has healing properties. It is also used as a well-known cleansing remedy. In China, Jasmine tea has been a long-standing healing favorite. The taste of the jasmine plant is alternately described as astringent, pungent, bitter, and slightly cooling.

The jasmine plant contains alkaloids, including linalool. Jasmine also contains salicylic acid, which is the active component of aspirin.

The jasmine plant has many actions attributed to it. Its flowers have been known as an aphrodisiac, an astringent, a bitter but relaxing nervine, an analgesic, a sedative, and a plant which helps encourage milk flow. The essential oil derived from the jasmine plant is thought to operate as an antidepressant, an antiseptic, an antispasmodic, an aphrodisiac, a sedative, and a uterine tonic.

There are two main components that are used from the jasmine plants: its flowers, and its essential oil. The jasmine plant flowers have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for hundreds of years. In Ayurvedic medicine, the jasmine flowers are known as jati, and it is regarded as a sattvic tonic, which encourages the principles of light, harmony, and increased perception, all principles that are associated with sattvic, which is one of the three qualities of health in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. The sattvic element of the jasmine flower is also thought to emphasize the nature of love and compassion. The jasmine flowers are also thought to work as a mild aphrodisiac for women. Jati is also used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to reduce fevers and to fortify the immune system.

The flowers of the jasmine plant are also used to make an aromatic tea. The Chinese have been using Arabian jasmine since at least AD 300 to scent teas. The flowers of the Arabian jasmine plant are known in China as mo li, and they are highly regarded in China as a scenting agent. In traditional Chinese medicine and practice, the Arabian jasmine flowers were placed alongside heat-dried green tea so that the green tea would absorb the scent of the jasmine flowers. These days, commercial tea makers simply mix the jasmine flower petals with the regular tea.

Jasmine tea infusions are recommended for treating infections, urinary inflammation and fevers, much as aspirin is used to reduce pain and fevers. The jasmine flowers can be combined nicely with lemon balm or skullcap to create a calming, relaxing tea. A wash made from infused jasmine tea flowers can also be used to bathe scrapes and cuts. Jasmine flower compresses can also be made to treat heat stroke, headaches, or anxiety. Massage oil can also be created by diluting jasmine oil with almond oil an applying to the skin.

Life is a series of breaths.

Life is but a series of breaths. Breath is life. We can live a long time without food, a couple of days without drinking, but life without breath is measured in minutes. Something so essential deserves our attention. Breath is the most important of all the bodily functions.

Proper breathing is one of the most important things you can do for maintaining your health. There is a right way and a wrong way to breathe. Children breathe deeply, from their diaphragm. As we age, however, our breathing shifts to the chest and becomes more shallow and more rapid. Deep breathing is best.

deep breathing and lungs

I recommend taking a few minutes each day to practice breathing deeply. You'll find a breathing exercise at the end of this page to help you learn to breathe more deeply throughout the day.

Vitamins and minerals are available in food

Description:

It is vital to our health to receive the nutrients our body needs. Most of these important vitamins and minerals are available in food, but not everyone gets the right amount from the food they eat. To prevent serious health care problems it is wise to make sure you supply your body with the right amount of these nutrients.

Why Take a Multivitamin?

Multivitamins provide essential ingredients needed to maintain good health. They come in different forms, including tablets, capsules, and liquid. This is the convenient way to get the daily doses of important nutrients. Along with a healthy diet, a multivitamin will help support good men's health and women's health.

Feel Better With a Multivitamin:

Although most people do not suffer from serious malnutrition, their bodies might be slightly deficient in some nutrients. Even a slight deficiency can pose an increased risk of numerous diseases.

Even what is considered minor problems can cause a person much suffering and loss of production. Sleep disorders, loss of memory, and lack of energy are common complaints. To support good health care, a multivitamin is very helpful.

Everyone has different needs due to lifestyles, genetics and age. There are different formulas that supply a wide range of nutrients at general nutritional levels.

Multivitamins for All Ages:

People of all ages can benefit from a multivitamin. Children are growing and need nourishment for their organs and healthy bones. Pregnant women have special needs to help their child to be born healthy.

As people age they develop different requirements for good health. Many young women have an iron deficiency and require an extra boost of iron. There are formulas for all ages and different needs to promote good health care.

Health Benefits:

Some deficiencies are hard to pinpoint, but a multivitamin could help prevent serious problems in the future. Healthy skin, good cholesterol levels, diabetes, enzyme absorption and digestion are often improved with a combination of vitamins and minerals in a multivitamin.

Some doctors use vitamins as therapy for specific conditions but it is not recommended to take mega doses without consulting your doctor. The recommended dose is the safest way to take the multivitamin.

One Pill a Day:

Instead of taking a handful of supplements, a multivitamin can give you the recommended minimum daily requirements at one time. It will keep the dosages in balance to help insure the absorption of key ingredients. Doctors report that everyone would benefit from a daily multivitamin, and you will too!

Loss of Hair | symptoms | causes | remedy

Home Remedy for Loos of Hair
Although hair is not essential to life, it is of sufficient cosmetic concern to provoke anxiety in anyone when it starts thinning, falling, or disappearing. To a woman, the sight of a comb or brush covered with lost hair can cause intense mental strain. Hair is formed in minute pockets in the skill called follicles. An upgrowth at the base of the follicle, called the papilla, actually produces hair when a special group of cells turn amino acids into keratin, a type of protein of which hair is made. The rate of production of these protein 'building blocks' determines hair growth. The average growth rate is about 1.2 cm per month, growing fastest on women between fifteen to thirty years of age.

Hair loss Symptoms

Lose hair found after combing, baths

Seeing hair on your clothes, after you comb, bald patches appearing gradually, receding hairline. Symptoms are pretty obvious for hair loss!

Hair Loss Causes

Loss of Hair Symptoms, Causes, Remedy and Diet

Lack of vitamins, inadequate nutrition

The most important cause of hair loss is inadequate nutrition. Persons lacking in vitamin B6 lose their hair and those deficient in folic acid often become completely bald. But the hair grows normally after the liberal intake of these vitamins.

Stress, Prolonged Illness, unclean conditions

Other important cause of hair loss are stress such as worry, anxiety, and sudden shock, general debility caused by severe or long standing illnesses like typhoid, syphilis, chronic cold, influenza, and anaemia; an unclean condition of the scalp which weakens the hair roots by blocking the pores with the collected dirt; and heredity.

Hair Loss Remedies, Hair loss prevention

Treatment for Hair Loss using Rubbing of Scalp

A vigorous rubbing of the scalp with fingers after washing the hair with cold water is one of the most effective among the several home remedies for the prevention and treatment of hair loss. The scalp should be rubbed vigorously till it starts to tingle with the heat. It will activate the sebaceous glands and energise the circulation of blood in the affected area, making the hair grow healthy.

Hair Loss home remedy using Amla Oil

Indian gooseberry oil, prepared by boiling dry pieces of indian gooseberry in coconut oil, is considered a valuable hair tonic for enriching hair growth. A mixture of an equal quantity of fresh indian gooseberry juice and lime juice, used as a shampoo also stimulates hair growth and prevents hair loss.

Treatment for Hair Loss treatment using Lettuce

Lettuce is useful in preventing hair loss. A mixture of lettuce and spinach juice is believed to help the growth of hair if taken to the extent to half a litre a day

Hair Loss home remedy using Amaranth

Amaranth is another valuable remedy for hair loss. Its fresh leaf juice should be applied to the hair. It will help the growth of the hair and keep it soft.

Hair Loss treatment using Alfalfa

The juice of alfalfa, in combination with equal quantities of carot and lettuce juice, taken daily, also helps the growth of hair to a remarkable extent. The combination of these juices is rich in elements which are particularly useful for the growth of hair. While preparing alfalfa juice, the leaves of the plant may be used when they can be obtained fresh.

Hair Loss treatment using Margosa

The leaves of the margosa tree are also beneficial in the treatment of hair loss. If hair has been falling or has ceased to grow it should be washed with the decoction of margosa leaves. This will stop hair from falling and stabilise its blackness. It will also make the hair longer and kill lice and other infesting insects.

Home remedies for Hair Loss using Mustard Oil and Henna Leaves

Mustard oil, boiled with henna leaves, is useful for healthy growth of hair. About 250 ml of mustard oil should be boiled in a tin basin. About sixty grams of henna leaves should be gradually put in this oil till they are burnt in the oil. The oil should then be filtered using a cloth and stored. Regular massage of the head with the oil will produce abundant hair.

Treatment for Hair Loss using Coconut Milk

The application of coconut milk all over the scalp and massaging it into the hair roots is also beneficial in the treatment of hair loss. It nourishes the hair and promotes hair growth. Coconut milk is prepared by grinding the coconut shavings and squeezing them well.

Hair Loss treatment using Lime-Pepper Seeds

Certain home remedies have also been found beneficial in the treatment of patchy baldness. The most valuable of these remedies is the seeds of lime and black pepper, ground together to get a fine paste. This paste applied on the patches, has a mildly irritant action. This increases blood circulation to the affected area and stimulates hair growth. This paste should be applied twice a day, for a few weeks.

Hair Loss treatment using Liquorice

The paste of liquorice, made by grinding the pieces in milk with a pinch of saffron, is another valuable remedy for patchy baldness. This paste should be applied over the bald patches at night before going to bed.

Hair Loss treatment using Onion

Onion has also been found beneficial in patchy baldness. The affected part should be rubbed with onions morning and evening till it is red. It should be rubbed with honey afterwards.

Hair Loss treatment using Other Remedies

Daily application of refined coconut oil, mixed with lime water and lime juice on the hair, prevents hair loss and lengthens it. Application of the juice of green coriander leaves on the head is also considered beneficial. Washing the hair with a paste of cooked black gram and fenugreek lengthens the hair. Regular use of castor oil as hair oil helps the luxuriant growth of the hair.

Hair loss prevention diet

Well balanced food intake

The healthy condition of the hair depends, to a very large extent, on the intake of sufficient amounts of essential nutrients in the daily diet. Persons with a tendency to lose hair should take a well-balanced and correct diet, made up of foods which, in combination, should supply all the essential nutrients. It has been found that a diet which contains liberal quantities of seeds, nuts, grains, vegetables and fruits would provide adequate amounts of all the essential nutrients. Each food group should roughly form the bulk of one of the three principal meals. These foods should, however, be supplemented with certain special foods such as milk, vegetable oils, honey, wheat germ, yeast and liver.

Acne Symptoms | Causes | Remedy | Diet

Home Remedy for Acne

Acne treatment (naturally at home or otherwise) is the most sought after treatment among the younger generation. Acne is a common and chronic skin disorder. It is an inflammatory condition of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. The lesions are usually found on the skin of the face, neck, chest and shoulders. Nearly six out of ten young people between the ages of twelve and twenty-four suffer from some degree of acne. Acne causes a great deal of embarrassment at an age when people tend to be sensitive about their personal appearance. Read about how yoga can cure acne.

Acne Vulgaris Symptoms

Acne Vulgaris is characterized by the presence of comedones or blackheads, pimples, small superficial sebaceous cysts, and scars. There are over half a dozen types of acne, the most common being blackheads. The areas chiefly affected are the forehead, temples, cheeks, chin, chest and back. In rare cases, almost the entire body may be covered with acne accompanied by extensive scarring.

Causes of Acne Vulgaris

Acne Symptoms, Causes, Remedy and Diet

Acne can be caused by wrong eating habits and chronic constipation

Wrong eating habits can be the root cause for all types of acne. Irregular hours of eating, excessive starch consumption, too much of sugar, fried and fatty foods are also common causes of acne. Chronic constipation is another cause of acne vulgaris. If the bowels do not move properly, the waste matter is not eliminated as quickly as it should be and the bloodstream becomes surcharged with toxic matter. The extra efforts of the skin to eliminate excess waste result in acne and other forms of skin diseases.

Devitalised condition of skin

Acne is also caused due to a devitalised condition of the skin which is a result of unhygienic living habits, excessive consumption of tea, coffee, alcohol or tobacco, and sedentary habits, which lead to indigestion and general debility.

Home remedies for Acne: Treatment and Medicine

Acne Vitamin Treatment

Two vitamins, namely, niacin and vitamin A have been used successfully to treat acne. Vitamin therapy should comprise the intake of 100 mg niacin, three times daily, and 50,000 international units of vitamin A, three times daily. Vitamin E, 400 mg, should be taken once daily. Continue this therapy for a month.

Acne Fenugreek Treatment

All-fruit Acne diet

To begin with, the patient should take only an 'all-fruit' diet for a week, taking three meals a day, of fresh juicy fruits, such as apples, pears, grapes, grapefruit, pineapples, and peaches. Only unsweetened lemon or plain water, either hot or cold, should be drunk and nothing else.

Well-balanced Acne diet

After the one-week, all-fruit diet, the patient can gradually adopt a well-balanced diet with emphasis on raw foods, especially fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouted seeds, raw nuts, and wholegrain cereals, particularly millet and brown rice. Further short periods of the 'all-fruit' diet for three days or so may be necessary at a monthly interval till the skin's condition improves.

Avoid strong tea/coffee, soft drinks and processed foods

Meats, sugar, strong tea or coffee, condiments, pickles, soft drinks, candies, ice cream, refined and processed foods should be avoided as far as possible.

Other Acne natural treatments

Warm-water enema

During the initial one week 'all-fruit' diet, a warm-water enema taken daily cleanses the bowels. Apply hot fomentation locally to open up the pores and to bring out the waste matter. Then rinse the affected parts with cold water.

Hot Epsom salts bath

A hot Epsom salts bath twice a week is beneficial in all cases of acne. This bath is prepared by adding 1 ½ kg of Epsom salts to 60 litres of water having a temperature of about 37.8° C. The patient should remain in the bath tub for 25-35 minutes till he sweats freely. After the bath, the patient should cool off gradually.
